Billing and invoice software is an essential tool for freelancers. It offers, among other things, a real time saving. But there now exist dozens of different software programs, and it can be difficult to choose the right one. Here, we’ll highlight three of the most compelling on the market today.
Online Invoices: the complete billing software
Online Invoices is an invoice software created in 2012 in the United States. It is a great software designed for international billing and takes into account taxes and foreign currencies. It offers several pre-designed invoicing and email templates, an automatic sending system, an overview of your client history and more.
Another great advantage this software offers is the option to customize multiple invoices. The main strength of Online Invoices is no doubt its integrated “time tracking” feature, ideal for freelancers. This platform also groups several tools into one, and therefore offers you the possiility to save time. You can edit quotes and manage the entire client relationship (automated emails, online payments, etc.).
Unfortunately, the main drawback of this software is that several versions exist. The first is free, but there is a charge for the others. Count on between $9.95 and $39.95 per month. The $9.95 version is sufficient for freelancers.

Invoicera: the interactive software
Invoicera is an invoice software created in 2009 in India. Invoicera is mostly used in large companies, but there's also a version for freelancers. This application is an industry leader, used by more than two million people.
Beyond the necessary classic features of billing software (such as a tax calculations, billing templates, and personalization options), Invoicera is a true international communications tool. It integrates a large number of payment solutions (approximately 25), and virtually all languages and currencies are available on this platform.
The main feature of Invoicera is its interactivity. Designed as a true communications tool, it allows you to edit invoices and maintain client relationships. For example, one of its available features allows you to compile data on your clients in order to analyze it. A portal dedicated to your clients is also available, through which they can access certain information. A mobile version also exists.
With Invoicera, the main drawback is its high price. There is a free version, but it only allows you to work with three repeat clients. For paid subscriptions, it will cost you between $19.95 and $99.95 a month.
MonAE: the French software
French software created in 2009, MonAE was specifically developed for freelancers and entrepreneurs in general, though there’s also a version called MY TPE, aimed at corporations.
MonAE is an online software package, which offers multiple specialized features. For example, a “statistics” feature allows you to see the growth of your business and your profits in accordance with the invoices issued. Additionally, you can access a “help” section for income taxes and tax returns.
MonAE comes in three languages: French, English, and Spanish. It is available for all currencies, plus it enables you to set up your billing, taking taxes into account.
The biggest advantage of this software is that it allows you to create a totally personalized account by entering all relevant information for your business (business tax credits such as ACCRE, tax withholding, contribution cycles, etc.). It is therefore an excellent tool for freelancers working under French jurisdiction.
The premum version is offered via subscription, with payments through PayPal. It costs between €3.90 and €8.90 a month. Along with its obvious advantages, there are also a few major drawbacks to be aware of, most notably, its almost mandatory use of auxiliary tools (time tracking, client follow-up, etc.).
